Petunias are one of the most popular type of annual. They grow best in light, well-drained soil in full sun after the last spring frost.  Petunias can grow in partial shade, but they will have fewer bulbs. It’s better if the plants have shelter from the wind.  Petunias are heat tolerant so avoid overwatering.  Watering once a week is sufficient unless drought conditions are present.  Monthly fertilization is ideal to ensure good growth.  Remove dead bulbs to prolong blooming.

Pansies can be planted in spring and fall.   Pansies grow best in a good garden loam, rich in organic matter and well drained.  Best planted in full sun – if too much shade, flower size and numbers are reduced and plant becomes spindly.  Only apply 1 inch of water each week during the growing season and do not water in late afternoons or evenings.  Remove dead bulbs and reapply fertilizer every 3-4 weeks for best results.
